Programming roadmap

Learn C++ step by step, from zero

A short explanation, a working example, and a small challenge right here. Start even if computers are completely new to you.

This covers the programming course and goes beyond it. Learn at your own pace and build confidence through practice.

Full course coverage + extra practice

Stage 01 / 21Before code · Course topic: Introduction

What is a computer?

Understand the device before writing instructions for it.

What you will understand

Explain what hardware, software, the processor and memory do.

Understand the idea

01Start with input, instructions and output. A computer executes instructions to produce results.

02The processor executes instructions; memory holds working data while a program runs.

Check your understanding

Which one is software?

Your turn

Choose a device you own. Identify the hardware and the software that makes it useful.

Before you move on

A stage counts as complete after a correct answer and both practice checks.

Extra resources if you need them

You can finish the lesson without opening another tutorial. These links are optional when you're stuck.

An easy study routine

  1. Watch a short part, close the video and rewrite the example from memory.
  2. Change a value or condition. Predict the result before running your code.
  3. If it fails, read the error and find the problem line. Mistakes are part of learning.
  4. When you understand the example, attempt the challenge on your own.

After your first project

Continue with LearnCpp topics such as references, pointers, structs, classes and vectors. Pick up Git and GitHub when you have projects to save and share. You do not need all of this in your first week.
